**After seeing the show at the theater, I started to think of all the shows I would love to see, specifically ones that are based on my favorite books. After thinking this, I decided to look through my shelves and think of all the books that I would love to see. There are endless possibilities. I could choose a lovely romance, or an epic fantasy. I pull a few books from the shelves and put them on the table. I think about the story that would be told in the theater from each, and slowly compile my list.**

Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore. If you read my posts, you will see that I did posts watching The Summer I Turned Pretty. I also recently got DVDs for the Narnia movies and The Darkest Minds. Because I have been surrounded by book to screen adaptations, I had the idea to do a post talking about the books that I would want to see as a movie or show. I will say the book and explain why I would want it as an adaptation. Enjoy!

  • #1 – The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
    • If you couldn’t tell by the way I rave about this book, this is one of my favorites, and I think it would make a great movie if done right. I always get apprehensive about adaptations, because I feel like they will never live up to the book, but I do think this one has potential. This is a very character driven story, but I think it would make a great coming of age, teenage summer movie. I would love to see the scavenger hunt scene translated to a movie.
  • #2 – Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone
    • This is one of my favorite ya contemporaries and it’s another one that I think would be great as a movie. This is another one that is more character driven, but I think watching Sam grow and find Poet’s Corner would be such a fun movie. The Poet’s Corner scenes would be so fun to watch and the set could be really cool to see.
  • #3 – Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
    • Another ya contemporary, Better Than the Movies would be another great movie. This could be a new high school romcom and would be cute to see on the screen. For this movie, I would do it so we could have a few flashbacks to when Liz and Wes were young so we could see the moments with Liz’s mom or when Liz was young and spending time with the other neighborhood kids,=.
  • #4 – White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson
    • Moving on to the thrillers and mysteries, I think White Smoke could be great as movie. I would do it as a horror movie, but one that is more for teens, so nothing overly scary, focusing more on suspense. The suspense would be slowly built and would escalate as the movie went on.
  • #5 – The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
    • Every series I have read by Jennifer Lynn Barnes so far could be one great for an adaptation. For The Inheritance Games, I would make this as a show so we could have more time learning the characters and the mystery. There are so many twists and turns and riddles in this series that it would have to be a show. I would love to see the riddles on the screen and watch as the characters piece everything together.
  • #6 – The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
    • Another Jennifer Lynn Barnes series that would be great as a show. Each book would be a season of the show, since each book follows a different mystery. All of the characters are so different it would be fun to see them all interact. I also think it would be interesting to see each of the mysteries play out.
  • #7 – Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
    • This is another one that would make a great show. Truly Devious had so many amazing reveals and twists, so I would love to see how it would translate to TV. I think this show would be cool with flashbacks like in the books so we can slowly reveal more information about the Ellingham murders/kidnapping. The suspense in this could be done very well and it would be fun to give it some slight horror elements.
  • #8 – Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert
    • Fantasy stories are always scary to adapt because you have to make it look good, which is why I thought this book would be good to adapt. It’s set in the real world with some elements of dark magic. This was a fantasy story with suspense and reminds me a bit of a dark fairytale. I would love to see the magic on the screen as a movie.
  • #9 – Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer
    • I’m not sure if this would be better as a movie/movie series or a show, but I think it has the potential to be a great adaptation. This is another fantasy story but I think it would be a bit easier since it doesn’t have a magic system, just a fantasy world. The outlaw aspect would make for great scenes and costumes, and I would love to see Tessa and Corrick’s interactions.

There are probably so many other books that would make amazing adaptations, but these are just a few that I think would translate well and would be amazing to watch. It’s a bit risky watching an adaptation, at least for me, but I think that these have the potential. Let me know if there are any books that you would like to see as a movie or show.
