**The totes full of books have been eyeing me down as of late. I have a hard time giving away my books, even the ones that are not my favorites, so I keep them away to decide what to do with them. Today is finally the day I sell them to the shops. I slide on my shoes and grab all of the bags of books and walk the several street corners to the shops. I could have hailed a horse so I wouldn’t have to walk as far, but it is a nice day so I walk. I make it to the shops and, with ease, find my favorite used bookshop. The bell rings as I push open the door, and the man at the counter greets me, wearing a crisp button down, pressed slacks, and dark suit jacket. I pass him the books as I can receive credit on them, and then start to browse.**
Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore! I love watching book hauls, so I thought it would be fun to do a post about one. I have acquired several books throughout the year, more than I can probably keep up with, but I wanted to do a small haul for what I got from the used bookstore the other day. I went to this one that I love and found a lot of great books, so I wanted to share. I’ll also include pictures to show the quality of the books. They all look really good! Queens of Geek has a slight tear on the spine, but they’re all good overall.
Haul📚
The first book that I picked up was actually from the middle grade section. I have been wanting to read Click’d by Tamara Ireland Stone for quite a while now, but I usually don’t see it in stores, and the one time I did, or when the chance to order it comes, I never buy it. This book follows a girl who loves coding and develops an app to help people find a friend. Every Last Word by this author is one of my favorite books, and her Time Between Us duology was also a great read, so I wanted to read her middle grade duology as well.

After I found Click’d, I made my way over to the young adult section. The first book I picked up over there was The One by Kiera Cass. I read this around 2016/2017 and absolutely adored this series. If someone were to ask me my favorite series around this time, it would have been The Selection by Kiera Cass. This series is a dystopian where 35 girls are chosen to go live at the palace for the chance to marry the prince. I don’t remember a lot about these books, and I honestly have no clue if I would really like them if I were to reread them, but I wanted to collect the series since it was one of my favorites a few years ago. This used bookstore always has some of the books but I never picked them up because I can’t justify buying books I’ve already read sometimes, but I finally picked it up this time.

I continued around the young adult section and found two more books that I already read but didn’t have. I usually don’t buy books after I’ve read them, but sometimes there’s one that I really liked or used to love and I just want to add it to my collection. I ended up finding a copy of Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson. This was another 2016/2017 read for me, and I really enjoyed it. This was my first James Patterson, and if you are interested in getting into his books, I really recommend this one. It’s about a girl trying to solve the murder of her parents, and I remember it being really good.

The other book I picked up that I already read was On the Fence by Kasie West. I think I also read this one around 2016/2017, and it was the first book I read by her. It’s about tomboy Charlie who gets a job at a boutique to pay off a speeding ticket and ends up falling for her next door neighbor. I have read quite a few Kasie West books since, but this would still be one of my favorites.

Right near that one, I found Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. This is a story set at a convention, and ever since I found that out, I have wanted to read it. I have wanted to read this one for years, but never got around to it, partly because I have never seen it in stores, and partly because I always pushed it off thinking I would eventually get around to it. I’m so excited to finally have this book. I try to look for books with convention settings or comic books or some type of more “nerdy” element at times. I mean, “Shawn vs. the Red Phantom” is one of my favorite episodes of Psych. I just love a good convention setting.

I walked around for a bit after that to browse at the adult section, and on my way back past the young adult section, I saw Starfall by Melissa Landers. This is the second and final book in the Starflight duology. I read Starflight in 2020 and loved it. I had low expectations since it takes place in space and was so different from what I normally read (don’t ask why I bought it even though I had these expectations) and I was very pleasantly surprised. I originally was going to skip the next book since it follows different characters, but after a while I wanted to read it but never got around to it. When I saw it, I took it as the sign to finally pick it up.

. . .
This was probably one of the best trips I’ve had to the used bookstore, top three for sure. I got some books that I loved to add to my collection, and some that I have wanted to read for several years now that I’m excited to get to. If you have a used bookstore near you, I highly recommend checking it out. You can find so many amazing books there and ones that you may not find on the shelves in person at traditional bookstores. Plus, it can be a lot cheaper, which is always helpful for bookworms wanting to expand their collection.
Let me know if you go to the used bookstore and what some of your best finds were.
xoxo,
Just another reader
