**I put the loaf of bread I purchased from the market on the kitchen table before walking over to my bookshelves. I take a browse through them, taking note of all the ones I still haven’t read. There are so many amazing unread books on my shelves that I have been excited to read but haven’t gotten to yet. I take a seat on the floor and smooth my skirts around me. I pile up ten books that I hope to read before the end of the year and move them to my room, trying to get myself to read them.**
Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore! I don’t know about any of you, but I have a lot of books that I’m really excited about just sitting on my shelves. I have acquired most of them this year, but some are from the past few years. I wanted to go through my shelves and make a list of my top ten books I want to read before the end of 2024 so I can prioritize them. Enjoy!
The first book I would like to read before 2024 ends is The Ballad of Darcy and Russell by Morgan Matson. I love Morgan Matson and have been very excited to get to this book, but unfortunately haven’t gotten there yet. It’s about a hopeless romantic girl who gets stranded on her way home from a festival and meets a boy she really likes. There’s more to it, but that’s the short version. I think I will really enjoy this book, and am looking forward to it. Her books are always such feel good ones.
Next, we have a Brigid Kemmerer book. I’m not sure which one though because I have both Forging Silver Into Stars and Storm. I don’t really have a preference to which one I get to, as long as I can read at least one. Forging Silver takes place in the world of the Cursebreakers series and deals with magic and conspiracies. Storm is a book that follows a group of brothers with elemental powers. Brigid Kemmerer is another of my favorite authors, so I really want to read another of her books before the year ends.
My next book is The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I love The Inheritance Games and the other books I’ve read by the her so I can’t wait to get to this one. The Inheritance Games follows Avery, a girl who learns she inherited 40 billion dollars from a man she’s never met. There are lots of riddles and mysteries involved and it’s a great series. Book four wasn’t my favorite, but this one has an interesting idea so I hope it’s good.
My fourth pick goes to Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I have been reading the Lux series all year and have been really enjoying it. It’s about a girl who moves to West Virginia and learns that her new neighbors are aliens. I only have one more book left in this series, so I am hoping to finish it before the year ends.
Number five is The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis. The Narnia series is another one I have been working through recently, so while I don’t think I will finish it this year, I do hope to get a bit farther in the series. It is such a magical story and I can’t wait to continue. I actually just finished The Horse and His Boy today.
The next book I hope to read before the end of the year is Betting On You by Lynn Painter. I discovered Lynn Painter last year when I read Better Than the Movies, and I ended up reading two more of her books as well. I actually haven’t read any of her other books this year, so I hope to get to the only other one I own. I believe it’s a story about two teens that work together at a waterpark that fall in love.
Next up is The Rosewood Hunt by Mackenzie Reed. The main reason I am putting this one on my list is because I keep saying I’m going to read it but never do. I think it’s about a girl who inherits money and has to solve riddles and whatnot. So, similar to The Inheritance Games, which is why I want to read it. Hopefully I will by the end of the year.
I think my next pick will be Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. This is a story about a group of friends going to a convention, which is a setting I need more of. I have wanted to read this book for years, and if you read my post about my used bookstore haul, you will know that I finally bought it after finding it at my used bookstore. Hopefully the years long wait will be worth it.
For my next book, I’m going to go with Starfall by Melissa Landers, another one I found from the used bookstore. I read the first book, Starflight, in 2020 and loved it. It was unlike anything I had ever read. It was ya sci-fi following a criminal who tries to get aboard a ship going to space and ends up getting stuck with a guy she hates. There are a lot of cool elements to this book and I recommend checking it out.
My final book that I’m hoping to read before the end of 2024 is The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert. I read one of her other books, Our Crooked Hearts, last year I believe and loved it. It was similar to a dark fairytale and had magic involved and a dual timeline. It was such a great book and I can’t wait to read more from Melissa Albert.
As of right now, these are all of the books I hope to get to before 2024 ends. I have no idea if I will actually get to them because I have a habit of reading other books instead, so stay tuned for my monthly wrap-ups so you can see whether or not I succeed. Let me know any books that you are hoping to read by the end of the year.
xoxo,
Just another reader
