**A book is an extraordinary thing. It can transport you to different lives and times and you can live so many different stories from the comfort of your home. I hug a book to my chest, one that I read last year but still think of. I haven’t read anything else by this writer and really need to read more. The writer’s storytelling and lyrical language sings me a song of longing, of wanting to be transported fully into this world. There are so many writers I need to read more from. I would love to explore more of their stories.**

Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore! Please excuse my break earlier in the week. I got busy and figured I would just wait to post until today. Lately, I have been thinking about some books I have really enjoyed where I have only read that one work by the author. Why have I not read more by them if I loved their book? So let’s get into some of the authors I need to read more from. This list is authors who I have read one book from that I loved but haven’t continued with.

Authors

Let’s go back through my last few years of reading. The first author I need to read more from is Tiffany D. Jackson. I read her book White Smoke in 2022 and loved it. I actually read this book in two days. The first half was fine, nothing really to rave about, but I read the second half and loved it. This is a ya horror/thriller about a girl moving into a new house with her recently blended family. Creepy things start happening and her new step-sister tells our main character about a new friend she’s made that wants her gone. The creepiness starts slow with things being moved and escalates to a shocking end. I highly recommend reading this. I loved this one, but have not picked up any more of the author’s books since, so I really need to look into her other books and read another.

Sticking with the thriller route for a bit, we have Ashley Winstead. I read In My Dreams I Hold a Knife maybe last year and loved it. It’s an adult dark academia/thriller that takes place at a college reunion where a murder is being uncovered from their past. A past timeline shows the friends’ time in college when it happens. I was really invested in this story and loved watching the murder get uncovered. I would love to try out another of the author’s books, especially another dark academia or thriller.

Next up, we have Nicole Lesperance, author of The Depths. I read this last year and absolutely loved it. This is a ya horror with fantasy elements that follows a girl going on her mom and step-dad’s honeymoon to a remote island. The island is odd, with changing flowers and birds calling her name along with two ghosts roaming around. This was such a creepy story and was very well done. I really need to check out more by her.

Next is Ginny Myers Sain. I read her book Dark and Shallow Lies last year and loved it. It’s a ya mystery following a girl going to a small town where she spends her summers. Her best friend went missing and, in a town of psychics, no one can tell her what happened. This was such an atmospheric read and had some really thrilling moments. It’s another one of those stories with slight fantasy elements interwoven with the horror.

On the same page as fantastical mysteries/thrillers, we have Melissa Albert. I read her book Our Crooked Hearts in 2022 and loved it. It’s a ya novel about a girl who is driving home with her ex and they nearly hit a woman on the side of the road. Our main character uncovers family secrets and magic and we also learn more about her mother when she was young. This book was a pleasant surprise and I plan on reading The Bad Ones before the year is over.

Moving away from thrillers, we have Jordyn Taylor, author of The Paper Girl of Paris. This is a ya story following a girl who inherits an apartment in Paris from her late grandmother. She learns about her grandmother’s sister that no one knew about, which is our other perspective. Our past timeline takes place during WWII. I don’t read a lot of books with historical elements but I really enjoyed this one. It was a great read and I loved seeing both timelines.

Another author I should more from is Siobhan Vivian. I read Stay Sweet years ago and really enjoyed it. It’s a ya contemporary about a girl working in an ice cream stand, but after the owner dies she has to work with the late owner’s grandson to keep the business going. I really enjoyed this story when I read it but never picked up anything else by this author.

These are a few of the authors I would like to read more books from. Let me know if you have read from any of these author and what book I should pick up next from them. Also, comment down below if you have any authors like this yourself.
