**October is such a lovely month. We get that nice autumnal chill, hot chocolate, and Halloween decor. This is the month that I get excited about when deciding a TBR. I love to look for spooky books and anything with thrills, twists, and monsters. I brush my hair from my face and look through my bookshelves, which I recently decorated with small pumpkins for the season. I pile the books in my arms then take them to my room, stacking them on my nightstand.**
Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore! I’m doing my TBR a bit earlier this month, but I’m in the middle of a book I hope to do a review on, so to give myself more time for that, I figured I’ll do my TBR today and (hopefully) finish my book this week and do a review on it for Friday. October is a great month for a TBR, so let’s take a look at my options.

There are a lot of books I want to read in October, but I try to keep my TBRs to about five books because I usually don’t read more than that a month. Especially August and September as you will discover in my upcoming wrap-up. The first book however is The Rosewood Hunt by Mackenzie Reed. If you have seen my previous TBRs, you will notice this book. So yeah . . . I haven’t read it yet. Nothing more said.
Next up we have Mina and the Undead by Amy McCaw. This is a vampire story following a girl named Mina in 1995 New Orleans. Mina loves horror movies, so she gets a job working in a horror movie mansion, but people start getting killed and it seems supernatural. I got this book at the end of last year and have been waiting to read it in October, so I am very excited to get to it.
My next pick is The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert. This is a story about people in this small town vanishing, the main character’s estranged best friend being one of them. As she investigates the disappearance, she discovers an old legend about a goddess that was part of her past. I loved Melissa Albert’s Our Crooked Hearts, so I am very excited to see what she does in this book.
Next, I chose Spells for Lost Things by Jenna Evans Welch. I read this author’s Love & series and enjoyed it, so I would like to read her other book next month. It takes place in Salem and discusses topics such as curses and witchcraft, so I think this will be a great choice for October. I think this one is more contemporary with a fantasy twist than mystery/thriller, but it still seems like a great read.
My final choice is a hard one. I tried to narrow it down but had about four books I was stuck between. I think I am going to settle on Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson. I started the Truly, Devious series back in 2021 and really enjoyed it. This book is the fifth in the series and follows a murder in London that Stevie is determined to solve. I really enjoy this series but still have not gotten to this latest installment from 2022. I hope to rectify that this upcoming month.
That’s all for my October TBR. I hope to read a lot of good books this month and look forward to all of them. Let me know what books you are hoping to read in October. Are they thrillers? Dark academia? Stories about witches? A romance? I like all the spooky books in October, but I will still read anything, even a nice, fluffy read.
xoxo,
