**I grip my book and feel myself leaning forward in my chair. It has been quite some time since I have read a thriller and I have missed that edge of your seat feeling. I can feel my heart-rate pump faster, almost as if I were the one in the story. I tuck my hair back and glance around the room, making sure nothing, or no one, is lurking around. I get back to my book and watch the mystery unfold.**

Welcome or welcome back to bookishcore! It has been quite some time since I have done a review so I knew I wanted to do another soon. The time has finally come for my next review, which will be of The Dare by Natasha Preston. I have been reading Natasha Preston for a few years now and have loved a lot of her books. The Dare is her most recent release.

What It’s About

The Dare is a story that follows Marley, a high school senior. At her school, senior year is a time for pranks, or dares. The Wilder brothers escalate the game every year, and this time, Rhett Wilder, the middle brother, is the one running the show. All the seniors are doing pranks like putting chickens on the quad and hiding water balloons, but Marley and her friends get dared to drive on a dark road at night with no headlights and, well, we all know how that turns out.

My Thoughts

As I mentioned, I have been reading Natasha Preston books for several years now and I have really enjoyed some of them. With this one, the concept grabbed my attention and the cover was very well done. I started this book while in the middle of another since I wasn’t getting through it, so I thought a thriller would be perfect.

This book starts off slow. We watch Marley and her friends do pranks and receive the dare. So much of this book is watching Marley and her friends after the dare. Don’t worry, I won’t give anything away here. It just dragged way too much for me. Maybe 3/4 of the way through, things finally started picking up and I got very invested. I actually kind of enjoyed watching Marley as she does all of these things towards the end. The ending was also very good and wrapped up well. I do wish there was a bit more of a twist though. I think that suspense and the thrilling aspect were used in place of an actual twist, but it was still good. I will say though, there’s this thing that happens at the end that made me very mad.

Overall, this was a pretty solid read. On my shelf, I like to keep my stack of Natasha Preston books in order of preference. This one would fall in the middle for me. If you don’t mind a slow start, I would still recommend this one.
