**Joining a readathon is just what I need. I take a walk to the shops and sit in a circle with some other patrons as we discuss what we want to read over the next week in a Halloween themed readathon. I browsed the shelves prior to sitting and picked up a new spooky read. I can’t wait to get started.**
Back in 2021, I participated in a Halloween readathon called Vampathon. I found it in a video and thought it would be fun to try and read the books that correlate to the prompts. There are a lot of prompts such as spooky middle grade, a book with a gothic cover, and a vampire book to movie. I only did this the one year but have been wanting to again ever since. It runs from October 26 until October 31. So let’s get into my options of what to read.
I know that I am not getting to all of these books. I may not even read any of them, but I want to choose books for as many prompts as I can. Starting with Mina and the Undead by Amy McCaw which is a vampire story set in the ’90s in New Orleans. This is already on my October TBR, and I put it there partly for this readathon, which I would use for the prompts gothic/spooky cover, a book with a gothic setting, and bats or blood on the cover.
My next book is Now You See Me by Jane B. Mason and Sarah Hines Stephens. This is a middle grade story following two girls and a camera haunted by a ghost. I have read this multiple times, and would love to give it a re-read. This would be used for spooky middle grade, a book to sink your teeth into, and/or read a book in the dark.
For the prompt of a horror book, I could read The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert. This book follows a girl whose friend went missing. She follows clues to learn about the disappearance and learns about an old folktale that played a part in their childhood games. On Goodreads, this is marked as horror and thriller, so I could use this for the thriller or mystery book prompt as well.
There are eight other prompts listed, but I don’t think I have any books on my physical TBR that would match those. Granted, Now You See Me was not on my physical TBR, but it is a short middle grade so I could still read it. This is not a definitive list, and as I mentioned, I will most likely not get to all of these since I do not have much reading time, but I am going to try to hopefully read at least two books in this time and complete some prompts. I may look for a graphic novel to fit the spooky graphic novel or manga prompt, but I do not have any specifically that I am looking at. If you have any recommendations for this prompt, please let me know, as well as if you are participating in this readathon.
xoxo,
Just another reader
