**As I ride past the shops, I see owners on tall ladders stringing decorations across shop fronts and employees hanging wreaths in windows. Shop displays show gift boxes, fake snow, and trees decorated in red, white, and green. A small band performs on the street, playing music for the upcoming holidays. A little early for me, but the crisp air makes it feel like winter. I go into a few shops, looking for gifts for the people in my life, and come out with bags containing sweets, books, and a few other things.**
While it’s a bit too early to start decorating, it is a great time to start thinking of gift ideas for others, so I came up with a list of items that would be perfect for book lovers. I will try and keep them in categories as well to split them up a bit. Enjoy!

Books
- Starting with the most basic, we have books. Every reader, even those who have a lot of unread books, are going to love a good book for Christmas. You can find out what books they are interested in, look at their Goodreads or Amazon accounts, or look online for recommendations.
- Along the same lines, we have special edition books. There are some really nice special editions out there. These may come from book boxes, Etsy sellers, or something simple like Barnes&Noble or Waterstones. Acrylipics has some really cool editions as well.
- Next is a book box subscription. Popular boxes like Owlcrate and Fairyloot have subscriptions with special edition books and items inspired by different books.
- If someone in your life likes ebooks, you can gift them with some type of e-reader. Kindle is the most popular, but Barnes&Noble has the Nook as well.
Book Personalization
- If the reader in your life already has a kindle, or you want to add on to this gift, you can add in some stickers. There are a lot of great stickers on Etsy. You can also find some on Amazon or Redbubble. They can be bookish stickers or any other types of stickers that can be used to personalize a Kindle or water bottle.
- Bookmarks are always a great choice as well, even when we have a lot already. It can be fun to match a bookmark to our current read.
- If the reader in your life likes to annotate, you could get them some new annotation supplies. A reading journal for 2025 and some new pens, highlighters, and sticky tabs could be a great gift.
- A book stamper may be a great way for readers to personalize their books. I think you can find them on Etsy and you can get them personalized with their name.
- Amazon also sells a personal library kit. I have one of these and put the checkout card in the backs of a few of my books and fill it out when I read it. It can also be filled out for anyone borrowing your books.
Things For a Bookshelf
- Bookends could add a little something extra to someone’s shelves and help keep things organized. It can also be a great way to decorate.
- Speaking of decorations, look for some cool bookshelf decor. Potted plants, art prints, or little figures could be great additions.
- Cute lights – I have a small bunny lamp from Amazon that is so cute. It can make a great reading light or just be a piece of shelf decor. Mine actually sits on top of my small TBR bookshelf.
- There is also lots of cool merch from small sellers and sellers on Etsy. One shop called FantasyScrolls on Etsy sells physical maps of locations from books, such as Narnia and Ketterdam. I don’t have any of these, but I have my eye on their Emberfall map.
- Cute stuffed animals – I see a lot of people using plushes for their shelves, a lot choosing to decorate with Jellycats. Personally, I don’t really like these as much. They can still be a great gift, but I recommend looking into Palm Pals as well. They are small and much cheaper, and cuter too!
Other
- I have two other things to add that don’t really fit in with the other categories. The first is a reading chair. If the person you are shopping for has a nice reading room but no chair, or a chair that’s not very comfortable, they may appreciate a nice reading chair.
- A really great idea would be bookish apparel. Find out their favorite books and see if you can find a small seller with a t-shirt or sweatshirt inspired by the book. Again, etsy has so many different products. I also like Defy the Night collection from Kingdom of Threads and hope to get some of it soon.
- Finally, you could make a book bouquet. I made one of these for someone recently and had a great time making it. Just find some books and get scissors, tape, tissue paper, and some type of s’more skewer or wood dowel. You can find videos online of how to make it. It’s supposed to look like a flower bouquet but with books. I like to think mine turned out pretty fun. It can also be a great craft for you to make too!
If you have some readers in your life, try and look for some cool bookish gifts. Books are great (and we will always want them), but it can be fun to look for other types of bookish gifts or merch.
