**We are nearing the end of the year. I take a few glasses from the cabinet and place them on the table, adding napkins, plates, and the like in each place setting. I hang decorations of gold and black and wait patiently for the new year. Once the decor is up, I go up to my shelves and pluck a few off. I slowly browse through each one, trying to choose the perfect books to start the year with. I choose a few and stack them on the table near my shelves.**

Welcome to the last post of 2024. The year has gone by very quickly and I can’t believe how long this blog has been going on for already. Because the year has not quite ended, we are going to skip over to my January TBR. I tried to choose a few that I think I will really enjoy or ones I am very excited for. My one stipulation however was that my TBR could not include any new books. I want to work on cutting down my TBR this upcoming year and finally read some of the books that have been on there for a while. My other rule is that I cannot make a new TBR until I have read at least 3 out of 5 books. So for January, I will put 5 books on my TBR, but I cannot make a different one for February if I have not read 3. Otherwise, the books will have to be on my February TBR as well. So, with that, I better choose wisely.

  • I am still reading Forging Silver Into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer, but I hope to finish it by the year’s end. Just in case I don’t, however, I am putting it on this TBR, but I am not counting it in the 5 books.
  • So, the first “real” book on this TBR is The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I would love to get to this in January because I have had it for a few months and I love the series. Plus, I also have to get to Games Untold and Glorious Rivals when that comes out in July. This is the spin-off or continuation series to the Inheritance Games series, which is a story following Avery, a teen girl who inherits $40 billion from a man she’s never met. The series has different riddles and mysteries that she has to solve with the man’s disinherited grandsons.
  • Next up, we have Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson. This is the fifth book in the Truly Devious series, which I started back in 2021. It follows a true-crime obsessed teen named Stevie who gets accepted to Ellingham Academy on the basis that she wants to solve the case of the Ellingham kidnappings that happened years prior. This was a fun series, and a great one to read if you like The Inheritance Games, with mysteries and riddles.
  • My next pick is Betting On You by Lynn Painter. I haven’t read a Lynn Painter this year, so I want to start the year off with one of her books. This one follows two teens who work together at a water park who start to fall for each other. I love all of Lynn Painter’s books that I’ve read, so I really need to read this one.
  • Choice #4 is Starfall by Melissa Landers. This is the second book in a sci-fi duology following Starflight, which I read and loved in 2020. The first book followed an outlaw trying to hitch a ride off earth only to be taken in by the guy she hates. It’s an enemies-to-lovers sci-fi with space pirates that completely took me by surprise. Several years later, and I still haven’t read the sequel so I need to rectify that.
  • Last but not least, we have The Silver Chair by C.S.Lewis. It was tied between this and These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, but I thought including a shorter book may be a good way to keep motivation and get through a book a bit quicker. This is book 6 of 7 in the Narnia series and I am looking forward to finishing the series this new year.

I hope you all had an amazing year and I hope 2025 is even better for everyone. I would love to hear about any books you are planning for your January TBR. I will see you all next year.

xoxo,
