**I sit and drink my tea in the coffee house in town after my work in one of the shoppes. I stir in the honey and read my book. The coffee house is decorated like a garden, with hanging wisteria and a few small bookshelves holding potted flowers and small knick knacks. I watch as people filter in the coffee house dressed in long floral dresses and suits. I have a nice chat with another patron about my book and stay until my tea grows cold and my book grows shorter.**

Sticking with my goal of one review a month, I wanted to do a review before the month’s end so today we are going to discuss Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter. I actually finished this a week or two ago, but I wasn’t sure if this was the book I was going to do the review on.

Accidentally Amy was originally a story sent out chapter by chapter in Lynn Painter’s newsletter before getting self-published. This year, it was traditionally published and I believe expanded as well. It follows Isabella Shay who is waiting for a coffee before she starts her day at her new job. After Amy’s name is called with no answer, Isabella takes the drink since she’s running late and walks right into Blake Phillips. Isabella gets to her new job and runs right into none other than Blake, who is not happy about her lying. As time goes on, they start to get closer and try to find a way to work together with their new relationship.

I am a huge fan of Lynn Painter’s books. They are funny and quirky and always entertaining. I especially love her young adult books which always have an extra charm and emotional elements. With Accidentally Amy, one of her adult releases, I found my time reading it enjoyable. Starting with the characters, I didn’t have a problem with any of them and had a great time reading about Izzy and Blake and their relationship. I also enjoyed some of the scenes with Izzy’s cousin.

I do think the plot was a bit simple. I sometimes have a hard time with romance books since it doesn’t always feel like they have a strong plot, and this was one of those ones. Once the two characters meet, the plot seemed to melt away a bit and the whole focus just became the romance, which did make it feel like the book was dragging on. I think that there needed to be another element to this story to strengthen the plot and keep it engaging.

One of my favorite parts was when Izzy and Blake were hanging out with Izzy’s cousin and his friends. They had to complete difficult challenges with high stakes. I don’t want to get into it since I did enjoy this part and I think that it will be fun to just read it for yourself.

Overall, I would say that I liked this book. I thought that the characters weren’t bad and enjoyed the romance. I also liked Lynn Painter’s writing as always and enjoyed several scenes in the book. However, I do think the plot needed to be stronger. The romance took over pretty early on and it made the book feel longer than it was. This was not my favorite by her, but I am still glad I read it and would say it’s worth a read if you like her other books.

Have you read the book? What did you think? I’d love to hear any thoughts on this book or any others you may be reading.

xoxo,
