**The theater in towne is having a costume day. One of the popular performances by a traveling act is coming and to bring in more people, the theater is having the last day of the show as a dress as a character day. Betty and I get ready together and put on our best dresses to match the theme of the show, which has bright floral decor. Once we finish getting ready, we take our bags and go out the door, chatting the whole way to the theater.**

I never thought that I would end up doing two reviews back to back, but here we are. I knew I wanted to review this book before I read it for two reasons: I have wanted to read it for years, and I just went to a convention myself just like the characters in the book, so I was excited to see how the convention was described.

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde is a story about three friends and their trip to a convention with two different romances and characters learning about themselves. I have wanted to read this book for so many years now but never picked it up. I liked the idea of a convention setting in a book and was very excited to see how it would play out. Unfortunately, the story was not for me. The way I summarized this book is basically it. While reading it, I felt like there was not much of a plot to be found. The characters just walked around the convention hall and talked to each other, and even the convention scenes were written where it felt like it was more just a random place and not the setting, if that makes sense. I wanted more descriptions of the showfloor and just something else.

The characters were also a bit dull. We had our three friends Charlie, Jaime, and Taylor. Charlie is promoting a new movie at the convention and getting over a recent breakup with her costar while exploring a new relationship with a YouTuber she admires. Then we have Taylor and Jaime who spend time around the convention and explore their feelings for each other. The characters did not have much personality and can be described by just one thing each. There was no depth to the characters and their entire story was built around one theme, such as Charlie’s breakup.

I really wanted to like this one since it had been a book I have wanted to read for so many years now, but it just fell flat for me. It was kind of boring and it wasn’t really giving me anything, with each scene feeling like it was a copy and paste since the characters deal with the same problems throughout most of the book, and they are brought up in every scene with them.

The one cool thing about this though was how well I could picture the showfloor since I recently went to my very first convention! That was actually why I decided to finally read this book. My family went to Fan Expo Cleveland in March and it was great! There was so much to see, but there were soooo many people. We did some photo ops, signing, panels, and checked briefly checked the showfloor.

While the book was not the best, I recommend checking out a convention if you can and if you are interested in different fandoms. I would love to hear about any of your convention experiences or favorite fandoms! Hope you all have a great rest of your day and I’ll see you soon.

xoxo,
