**The book sits on my shelf and stares at me. I recently read it and put it in its proper place after waiting to read it for some time now. It just hadn’t yet called to me but I did finally pick it up and read it. And now, it rests in its place and think about my thoughts. Was it worth the wait? Was I glad to have held it off? These thoughts plague my mind as the book rests before me.**

If you have been around for a little while, you will probably know that The Rosewood Hunt by Mackenzie Reed has made it onto MANY TBRs of mine. And now, I can finally (!) say that I have read the book.

The Rosewood Hunt is a story about Lily Rosewood who wants to one day take over her family’s company, Rosewood Inc. When her grandmother suddenly dies and the money goes missing, Lily and a group of others follow riddles to try and find the fortune.

This book kind of reminded me of The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes with an inheritance and riddles so I was interested in reading the book. Starting with the characters, I thought that they were all fine. I didn’t really feel one way or the other. I feel like they could have been replaced and the story would still feel the same. I really disliked Daisy though. She accused Lily of wanting to be the center of attention and of taking her moment, but Daisy is very much vying for attention all the time. She keeps posting about the missing inheritance and causes problems, and what I hated most of all was her filming about it at the grandmother’s funeral. That just rubbed me the wrong way and made me really not like her for the rest of the book.

The story was overall okay. Honestly, for a lot of the book, it felt like I wasn’t really reading anything. Not that nothing was happening, but it felt like it wasn’t adding anything to me if that makes sense. I also felt like the riddles were a bit simple. They seemed a bit more straightforward so I was kind of expecting a bit more from those. Towards the end it did pick up a lot. There were some more high-stakes moments that made the book more entertaining and I did enjoy my time with it a lot more as the book concluded.

One of my complaints about this book is how after Daisy starts posting about the money going missing, some treasure hunters come to town to look for it. I did not like this storyline and felt that it was very out of place. I don’t want to give too much away, but what they do just doesn’t feel like it fits with the rest of the book.

This book was very average for me. There wasn’t a lot that really stood out and I was expecting a bit more from it. I did like the last little bit with the higher stakes and I loved that Quinn keeps a knife in her hair. I thought that was a fun touch to her character. The book was fine, but I don’t really think I would be recommending it overall.

After however many TBRs, I finally read The Rosewood Hunt, and while I have average thoughts on it, I am glad that I finally read it. Now off to read something else.

xoxo,
