**The weather is starting to break. Blue skies, birds chirping, warm sun beating down. Summer is getting closer. I stare up at the sky and try to see images in the clouds. One looks like a bird ready for flight, and another looks like a popsicle. I reach for the book beside me and gently shoo a ladybug off it before pulling out my bookmark and continuing my story.**
I did a summer recs list last year and wanted to add to it a bit. I have a few more books that I would recommend for the summer months ahead of us, some new reads of mine and some older. With the weather warming, it is the perfect time to get to all those summer reads.
- Funny Story by Emily Henry
This may have become my favorite Emily Henry book so far, though I have not read her newest release yet and may need to revisit Beach Read and Book Lovers to be sure. This follows Daphne whose fiance cheats on her with his childhood best friend, so she moves in with the friend’s ex as she needs a place to stay. We watch as Daphne spends time with her new roommate and starts to find herself again after her breakup. This book was actually pretty good. I really liked that Daphne was a librarian and enjoyed seeing her at work. I also liked the characters and thought this one was a great read and perfect for summer.
- Sunkissed by Kasie West
It has been a few years since I read this one, but it’s about a girl who spends the summer at a remote camp after a fallout with her friends. She then gets the opportunity of a lifetime after meeting some people at the camp. While not my favorite Kasie West, it is probably her most summery book. It’s fun and a quick read, though I recommend checking out some of her other books as well. On the Fence, P.S. I Like You, and Listen to Your Heart were probably my favorite throughout the years so far.
- Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
I started this series back in 2018 I believe and finally finished maybe two years ago. This book follows a girl who takes a trip to Italy to meet her father since it was her mother’s dying wish for her to get to know him. She explores Tuscany and learns more about her mom in the city. This is actually a trilogy following three different girls as they spend time in different countries and learn about their families. My favorite is either this one or the third book, but all are great for summer with that vacation aspect.
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
Last year I recommended The Unexpected Everything, but a lot of Matson’s books are great for summer, so I couldn’t help but recommend a different one. This one follows a girl whose best friend goes missing. Emily has no idea what happened to Sloane and all that she left was a bucket list with things for Emily to do to get out of her shell. With the help of some unlikely friends, Emily works to complete the bucket list to find her friend. This is a really fun summer bucket list book with themes of friendship. I highly recommend giving this, and just about every other one of her books, a try before the end of the summer.
- The Match by Sarah Adams
This is a pretty new read of mine but I really liked it. The Match is about Evie Jones who works with service dogs and works to match one for a client. Her and the client, Jacob Broaden, don’t get off on the right foot but eventually work together to find Jacob’s daughter Sam a service dog which brings them closer together. This was such a cute story and Sarah Adams’ writing was really well done and humorous. Romance books are great for summer and this is definitely one to look for. I actually just finished the sequel The Enemy which was also very good.
These are just a few books to check out for the upcoming summer months, though there are so many that are great for the warming weather. I hope you all find some great new reads this summer (or winter depending on where you are) and stick around for tomorrow’s post.
xoxo,
Just another reader
