**I scour my shelves and start plucking books off like I’m picking petals from a flower. I let them drop to the floor and wait for them to wither. Instead of a graceful dance, the books make a thud as they reach the hard floor, echoing through the sitting room. I do this a few more times before taking up all the books and packing them away in a tote for the next time I go to towne. There are a few places to drop my unwanted books off, so I place the bag in the corner for another day.**

I don’t think I have ever done an unhaul on my blog before, but it is actually something I love watching videos of, even more than hauls. I’m always interested to see what books people are getting rid of and why. I usually unhaul some books every year and sell them to a used bookstore. I have a small stack now of about ten books, though there is another stack of ones I’m not sure about yet and a few on my shelves that may make their way off some time in the future.

First book is The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. This is the only one that I may end up holding on to. I have had this book for years and I have read it, but I don’t remember anything about it and have no plans to ever reread it. I think it’s one that I’ve had for so long that I’m used to owning it, so I’m not sure what I’m doing with this one yet.

Next book to unhaul is Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz. I bought this expecting something similar to Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, but I just didn’t really like this one. I was kind of bored and just didn’t get what I was hoping for out of this book. There was one scene that I really liked, but that was about it and not enough to make me keep it.

My next book is Belladonna by Adalyn Grace. I was really looking forward to the time period in this book since it sounded very gothic. Plus there was Death as a character and a mystery. This sounded like such a good book, but I really didn’t enjoy it. One scene with the garden was very atmospheric, but overall I didn’t like this book. I also didn’t like the romance in this one which kind of ruined it for me.

Next we have Umberland by Wendy Spinale. This is an old library copy and the second book in the series that I was given but I don’t have much interest. The same goes for the next few books, which are Dead to Me by Mary McCoy, Shipwreck Island by S.A. Bodeen, and Women of Mystery III which is a collection of stories edited by Kathleen Halligan. Someone gave me all of these but I don’t see myself reading them so I’d rather pass them along to someone else.

The next unhauled book is The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert. This was a DNF from me last year. This book sounded really cool and it just . . . wasn’t. The book jumps around way too much and I really just didn’t care about what was happening. I was kind of bored and the story was not for me.

My next book is Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw. I really did not like this one. I love The Nightmare Before Christmas but this book does not add anything to the story. It follows Sally as she takes her own adventure through a door, but I just did not like the story that was being told. I think part of it was just not liking it, but another part knowing that it was based on a movie I loved, which kind of made it worse.

For the last book, we have The Essential Homer. I realized that the stories in this one are extremely edited down, so if I ever choose to read The Illiad or The Odyssey I would read the full version.

As of right now, those are all the books that I am unhauling. I have a few more in a maybe pile right now (The War Widow by Tara Moss which was very boring with too many converging storylines in the end, and a few books in the My Sister the Vampire series by Sienna Mercer) but I’m not sure what I want to do with those yet as well as a few other random ones on my shelves. I may just save those for a future unhaul, but for now I’m excited to get rid of these books and make some room on my shelves. Do any of you unhaul books? If so, what makes you unhaul the books that you do?

xoxo,
