**I wrap a scarf around my neck even though the weather is warm, but I want to feel comfortable so I pull it tighter around me. I pull the curtains open and bask in the late morning sun. I take my recent from the crook of my arm and add them to the shelf to welcome them to their new home. When I finish putting the books away, I put the kettle on because it can never be too warm for tea.**

In the beginning of the month, I was reading pretty quickly but I have since slowed down. I still read four books though and can’t wait to share my thoughts.

  • The Rosewood Hunt by Mackenzie Reed

Yes, I finally read it! This book follows a girl named Lily Rosewood whose grandmother dies and leaves behind a large inheritance that goes missing. Lily and some others receive clues that they have to solve in order to find it. This plot reminded me of The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, which what originally made me want to read it. I have a whole review on this one, so check that out for my full thoughts. I thought this one was a bit boring. Nothing was really happening and I didn’t feel immersed in the story. Plus, I felt like the riddles were a little simple. They weren’t overly complicated like I had hoped. I also thought some of the storylines in here felt a little out of place since there were these high-stakes, serious moments while the rest of the book didn’t match. It was okay, but not my favorite.

  • Gradchanted by Morgan Matson

This was a highly anticipated release for me since I love Morgan Matson’s books. This one is the second Disney book by her which follows Cass who is attending Disneyland for grad night. The night takes a total turn and when she tries to leave the park, she realizes that she is stuck in a time loop and has to confront the mistakes of the night over and over. I don’t think I have ever thought about how much of a bummer time loops are. You are reliving the same moment over and over and can’t get out of it and this book really made me realize how horrible they must be. I think that Cass could have ended the time loop much sooner, but I don’t think it was so much about not knowing how to do it as it was not accepting how to get out. I think the time loop was done well as was Cass’s reactions to the loop as it goes on. The last chunk really made the book for me since the story got more entertaining and we can see Cass grow as a character.

  • Win Lose Kill Die by Cynthia Murphy

This is a thriller set at an elite school where our main character Liz attends where she is also part of a secret society. At the end of the previous school year, one of the members died, and the pattern has continued this year with head girls getting killed off, so Liz and her friends investigate to see who is doing it. This one felt like nothing was happening. While it was a thriller and people were dying, it didn’t feel very thrilling. We didn’t really get that until close to the end. The only part that really picked up was the end which made me like the book a bit more. However, I’m not sure how I felt about the reveal. It was kind of good, but also didn’t make sense at the same time so I’m not sure how I felt.

  • The Enemy by Sarah Adams

After reading The Match this year, I knew I wanted to read more by Sarah Adams. The Enemy follows bakery owner June Broaden who is seeing her enemy for the first time since graduating high school. The two of them are attending their friends’ wedding which is forcing them to work together. But that time apart has changed things and they may not hate each other as much as they thought. I really liked this one! It was cute and I really liked the interactions between June and Ryan. I honestly don’t have much to say about this one other than the fact that I enjoyed it.

I was really hoping to finish The House Across the Lake by the end of the month, but I am making very slow progress with it. I was also able to cross off some more bingo spaces as well! Somehow I still don’t have bingo even though I have a lot colored in. I’m hoping to finish at least one row next month, so stay tuned.
