**My cousin and I are spending some time at a lake house. It has a wonderful view of the lake and flowers bloom all around the house. I take my book outside and sit on a blanket on a patch of grass overlooking the water. I read my book and turn page after page, the suspense killing me. I read until night falls and the fireflies come out. I turn the last page and make my way back inside.**
The most recent book I finished was The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager. This one follows a woman named Casey who, after some bad publicity, is staying at her family’s cabin. She spends her time drinking and eventually starts spying on the new neighbors, a former model and her tech genius husband. Casey saves her new neighbor from drowning and the two become friends and after she vanishes, Casey tries to figure out what happened to her.
I read Riley Sager’s book Lock Every Door a few years ago and wasn’t the biggest fan. I wasn’t invested and the plot twist seemed a bit weird to me. Reading this one, it took me quite a while to get through it. It was fine, but I didn’t have the motivation to pick it up. Then I started reading more and I really enjoyed it. I think Casey was an interesting character to read about. She is trying to help her new friend and it makes it more interesting when we find out why she started drinking.
The mystery also really intrigued me. It did have moments where it was slow since Casey is watching the house across the lake a lot, but there were moments that were eerie and picked up. I ended up flying through 2/3 of this book in two days after being stuck on the first third of it for about a week and a half. This one had so many twists and some of them did surprise me. It did have a bit of an unconventional ending, but I was warned of that beforehand so I expected it.
This book was creepy and had a great story and some very surprising twists. I ended up really enjoying this one and want to pick up his other book The Last Time I Lied soon.
Have you ever read a Riley Sager book? Which ones?
