**I dogear the corner of my book, smiling all the while as I finish the page. My heart beats a little harder as I read a tale so beautifully written it should be read by everyone. Pages are flipped and more are bent at the corners so I may return to the spot when needed, when I need a little jolt of happiness to get me through the day. Once I finish the process, I go to my shelves and pick up a few and search through the folded pages and read some of my favorite lines, my favorite stories, my favorite lives, once again.**
Contrary to my storytelling snippet I actually don’t dogear my pages, but I did start annotating my books at the very end of 2020 after getting into BookTube. When I first started, I used it to tab quotes I liked and that was all. Now that I have been tabbing for several years now, I use it to bookmark my favorite quotes, my favorite moments, something that made me laugh, a reference to something, and really just anything that stood out to me that I would want to flip back to. While I love watching people write in their books and I do find it fun, I personally only tab save for a rare book here and there that I will fully annotate. Anyway, I wanted to take you all on a tour of my most tabbed books.
- The Match by Sarah Adams
Sarah Adams is an author I’ve wanted to read from for several years now, specifically this book, and I finally read it this year. There are times when I want to read a book for years and when I get to it it doesn’t meet my expectations. Let me tell you, this one exceeded my expectations. It was so cute and I had a great time reading it. There were so many sweet moments between several of the characters that were too good not to tab.
- The Enemy by Sarah Adams
This was the other Sarah Adams book I read which is a companion to The Match. While I like The Match better, this one was really good too. I loved the little rivalry between the two characters and they also had so many moments worth bookmarking. I ended up filling this one up as well.
- Fourth Wing and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
I honestly never thought I would like this series. I only picked it up because of the hype because I wanted to understand why everyone was raving about it. I actually really liked it. I loved the way the dragons were written and the amount of action in this book. I tabbed some quotes I liked, emotional moments, and a lot of moments with the dragons, which probably was what most of what my tabs were. Tairn is one of the best characters.
- Funny Story by Emily Henry
While I like Emily Henry, I don’t love her books as much as many others, probably just because I much prefer YA novels. This one however was one that I did really like. I think a lot of her other books are ones I like as adult books, but this one I like as a book. I had a lot of tabs for moments between Miles and Daphne.
- Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
The Stalking Jack the Ripper series was one that completely took me by surprise. I didn’t really like the first book, but wow! The second book made me adore this series and books 2-4 made this an all-time favorite. I’m not sure if this one specifically would rank 2 or 3 for me out of the series, but it had the most tabs. There were so many great moments between Audrey-Rose and Thomas and each of these books has some great quotes.
- Destroy the Day by Brigid Kemmerer
Similar to Capturing the Devil, this may not have been my favorite in the series but it had the most tabs. Brigid Kemmerer is one of my favorite authors, so I always end up annotating some scenes in her books. This one had a lot of moments I wanted to go back to. I think that a lot of my tabs were moments with Corrick and his pining over Tessa. One of the best love interests hands down.
- Forging Silver Into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer
I would say I have no clue how I have so many tabs in this book, but I know full well a majority are scenes with Rhen. Rhen and Harper make appearances in this book and since they are two of my all-time favorite characters from one of my all-time favorite books, A Curse So Dark and Lonely, I had to tab just about every moment with them.
- Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
I am in the minority when I say that I liked Shadow and Bone over Six of Crows. I was just much more invested in the story and had a better time reading it. This book specifically was filled with great quotes that I love to go back to. You know it’s good when you have four tabs in two pages. This one was also a bit emotional which caused some of my annotations as well.
- King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
This wasn’t even a book that I loved, but Nikolai has so many sarcastic remarks that make me love his character that I end up tabbing many of his lines. I honestly couldn’t even say what else I tabbed other than lines from him.
- The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
Everyone should know by now that this is one of my all-time favorite books and has been since I first read it back in 2016 (I know it probably won’t happen, but there NEEDS to be a 10 year anniversary edition of this book next year). One of my editions of this book (yes, there are multiple) is one of the only books that I have fully annotated. I have pen, highlighter, and tabs covering this book. I think what I love about this one is the realism of it, like I can imagine this so vividly and like it could actually be some girl’s summer. The tabs on this one are for fun moments between the friend group, heartwarming moments between Andy and her dad, and some quotes that I really liked.
- Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
Another favorite of mine, Liz and Wes were just so great to read from. They have such a great dynamic and there were so many moments that had me smiling and it was hard to not fill this book in tabs. One of my favorite book quotes is also in here! Same goes for The Unexpected Everything.
I originally had a few more books on this list but didn’t realize how long it would get, so we’ll end it here. I adore annotating my books, especially when it comes to tabbing. It can be fun to just go back and reread some of your favorite scenes. Do you annotate your books? Which books are the most heavily tabbed/annotated?
xoxo,
Just another reader
