**Mushrooms grow outside my door. Little things, they are, but they almost make my little cottage all the more magical. My shoes clack on the cobblestone path as I take a walk deeper into the dense trees, my eyes searching for animals and flowers. I spot some purple petals growing and watch as a bee buzzes around it. Forests like these always remind me of fairies, and it brings me back to my days as a small child searching for fairies in the forest nearest my parents’ house. I continue my walk, but don’t see any signs of fairies.**

I think that many of us have some auto-buy/auto-read authors. The ones where we don’t even need to know the plot to know that we are buying the book almost immediately. The authors that I consider my top five favorites are all auto-buy for me. As soon as I see they have a new book coming out, I am going to read it. So let’s see who my top auto-buy authors are, as well as a few honorable mentions.

📚Morgan Matson

I have been a fan of Morgan Matson since I read Since You’ve Been Gone back in, I think, 2016. I loved the book and have been reading her books since. Her stories are my favorite young adult contemporaries. Many of them just feel realistic and have great stories with amazing relationships, be it romantic, friendship, or family. Many also have some emotional moments that really make you feel something. I have actually read all of her books except for her audio novella A Night to Remember. My absolute favorite is The Unexpected Everything. I will definitely continue to read anything she releases. I’m actually doing a reread of her book Take Me Home Tonight now.

📚Brigid Kemmerer

I found Brigid Kemmerer in 2021 when I read A Curse So Dark and Lonely, which I fell in love with and still think about frequently. Her fantasy series have great characters, world-building, and romances. Her contemporaries are also well written with deep, emotional stories and complex characters. Her writing is very addicting and I don’t think I’ve read a single bad book by her. I still need to read Carving Shadows Into Gold, Thicker Than Water, and the rest of the Elemental series. My favorite is, of course, A Curse So Dark and Lonely.

📚Natasha Preston

My first Natasha Preston was The Cellar, and I read it at a time when I wasn’t reading thrillers. At all. So I did not like this book and got rid of it. This was back in 2016/2017, and then I got a copy of The Lost as a gift a few years later and read it in 2021. I loved it. It was so unique and entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat. She also writes romance novels, but I only read her thrillers. I ended up reading all of her thriller novels and am now caught up except for her latest release, The Party. My favorite is The Lake. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and was so invested.

📚Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Inheritance Games kind of blew up a few years ago, and I ended up reading it back in 2021 when it was pretty big. This was the book that made me love her writing. The mysteries are so well thought out and the short chapters keep you reading and wanting to know what happens next. The characters are all so fun to read about and I love the brothers and their relationship with each other and Avery. This is probably my favorite series by her. I have also read The Naturals seres, the Debutantes duology, The Fixer duology, and I am reading the Grandest Game series. The Fixer and Debutantes were not absolute favorites, but still were entertaining. I have so many books to read by her still but hope to get to them all some day.

📚Lynn Painter

Lynn Painter has come out with so many books in the few years she has been writing. I read Better Than the Movies in 2023 and adored it! It was funny, so cute, and I thought the story was fun with a great cast of characters. Lynn Painter’s writing was so good too and it really just sucks you in. Her characters feel like actual teenagers as well, but different in the way that Morgan Matson’s do, but somehow they both feel real. It’s almost like hers are more teens of today that kind of also feel like the stars of a teen movie, while Matson’s feel more 2000s/2010s (which I guess makes sense since they were written in that era) but actual teens living their lives. So far, I have read Better Than the Movies, The Do-Over, and Betting On You from her young adult selection, and Mr.Wrong Number and Accidentally Amy from her adult selection. I still have to read The Wish Switch, Nothing Like the Movies, The Love Wager, Happily Never After, and Maid For You, though she has so many more books coming out. I really want to get to one or two of these this year to try and catch up. Better Than the Movies is, of course, the best one.

Honorable Mentions

📚Emily Henry, Leigh Bardugo, and Kasie West

While not favorite authors and more just ones that I keep up with, I have read a decent amount of books from them and I am interested in reading more. They all have some really good books and I think I would continue to read from each of them.

I love having auto-buy authors and I have loved so many books by these ones. While I may not love every single book they come out with, I still enjoy most of what they release and will continue to read their books in the coming years. Do you have any auto-buy authors? If so, who are they and what is your favorite book by them?
