**A robin lands on my windowsill and pecks at the glass, creating a little tapping noise that matches the stirring of my spoon in my teacup. I slowly sip my tea and stand in the early morning light. I take my book outside and sit in the grass, flipping the pages of my book, careful not to spill on the pages. A little rabbit hops over and sniffs at the grass close by before hopping away. Though it may be October, the weather is still warm.**

I was hoping to get to more books in September, but I did read four which is still good. Two of the books I read in September are actually for a post that I have planned for this Friday. Last week was extremely busy so I wasn’t able to get to it then, but it will be out this Friday instead. Anyway, let’s get into the wrap-up.

  • The Eyes of Tamburah by Maria V. Snyder

I believe this is an indie book that I randomly stumbled across. I love trying out indie/self-published books and supporting small authors so I occasionally do some research to find new ones to read. This one is about a girl named Shyla who is cursed by the sun goddess and finds artifacts for archeologists in the underground city they live in since the sun has gotten too hot. After an important artifact gets stolen, she is accused of the theft and must find it to save herself and her friend. I did a whole review on this one, so I recommend checking that out for my full thoughts. I thought the idea of this was incredibly unique. The writing style was not my favorite and there were moments where the story felt slow, but it did have some interesting scenes that held my attention.

  • Kristy’s Great Idea by Ann M. Martin

I never read The Babysitter’s Club as a kid, so I decided now was the time to finally give it a try. I liked this one. It wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read, and I quite honestly will probably never continue on (though never say never), but I enjoyed my time with it. I don’t think anything really stood out to me with this one, but it was a quick, easy read with a solid story.

  • Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

This one was actually my book club’s pick. It had never been on my radar even with the hype surrounding it a few years ago, but my book club chose this book to read so I picked it up. The book was not what I thought it was going to be. I thought the whole thing was going to focus on the show, but we don’t see that until much later on. I found the writing style a bit dry and the story lagged for me at times. However, there were also parts where I was really interested. Once I got past the first few chapters and found my footing with the book, I started to enjoy it more. The middle got really slow for me, but the last hundred pages or so picked up again. One of my complaints though was the constant discussions on rowing. I didn’t really understand why it was such a big focus in the story. I’m not sure if there was a reason for this, but it felt like a large part of the book. Overall, I would say my thoughts on this are a bit mixed. I think it had moments where I enjoyed it, but it’s not one I will really think about.

  • The Startup Squad by Brian Weisfeld & Nicole C. Kear

Finally, we have The Startup Squad. I found this book over the summer and finally just checked it out from the library. It follows a group of girls who work together on a lemonade stand for a school project. The Startup Squad is actually an organization as well that encourages young girls to become entrepreneurs. This was probably my favorite book of the month surprisingly. I thought it was a fun book that is great for middle schoolers that want to start a business or have an entrepreneurial mindset. The characters were all so different and it really focused on them learning to work together and figuring out how to make their business succeed.

I also started A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston, but I am still working on that one. I, unfortunately, have not been able to pick it back up in a few days, but really hope to read some more of it soon, so you’ll see that in the October wrap-up. Hope you’re all having a good day, and I’ll see you again on Friday.

xoxo,
