**I stare in the shoppe window as the sun dims behind me at a magnificent little figurine, seemingly hand-crafted. I have seen one similar in the display several weeks prior, but missed out on it. I stare for only a moment longer before decided to go in and make the purchase. After I secure my new belonging, I make my way back home and place the small figurine on my shelf beside one of my favorite series.**
Several weeks ago, I stumbled across something very interesting: Funko Pop made figures of Paedyn Gray and Kai Azer from Powerless by Lauren Roberts. This got me thinking about the fact that there hasn’t been any other bookish Funko Pops. Of course we have ones from some popular series, but this was only after they were turned into movies like the Hunger Games and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. There are also a few author ones like Jane Austen and Edgar Allen Poe, but we haven’t seen any figures from popular series before getting adapted until the release of the Powerless pops. I do not actually collect Funko Pops, but really wanted to discuss this topic as a bookworm. So let’s discuss.
I believe I was browsing through the Books-A-Million website when I found a whole section dedicated to Powerless, with Funko Pops included. It made me realize that we never really had any bookish figures unless there was a movie or show that came out based on it. With the popularity of BookTok and the rise of readers due to this platform, I think that Funko should use this and create more bookish Funko Pops. Popular series including ACOTAR, Throne of Glass, Fourth Wing, The Cruel Prince, and even The Summer I Turned Pretty, which could release alongside the movie, would be a great starting place for Funko Pop since so many people have read and adored these series. Many readers are also collectors, buying multiple copies of their favorite books, special editions, bookshelf decor, etc., so why not turn some of the most popular BookTok books into Funko Pops?
Of course, this would require research to ensure that the idea is profitable and that there is actually a market for this collection of Funko Pops. However, if this idea were to work, Funko could send out some figures to popular book influencers and use them in their marketing efforts. Joining the book community mainly through BookTok, Bookstagram, and BookTube would allow Funko to target their market: readers. And this would be through popular creators so people that follow them with similar taste will want to buy the product after seeing their favorite influencer unbox it. I think there is some potential in this idea and I wish we could see it come true.
As for sets I would love to see, my top choices would be Harper and Rhen from A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer, Tessa Cade and Weston Lark from Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer, Audrey-Rose and Thomas from Stalking Jack the Ripper, and Liz and Wes from Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter. There could be so many cool Fourth Wing ones as well, with the dragons either coming with the characters or by themselves.
Should Funko make more bookish Funko Pops? If so, which ones would you like to see? For me, it may actually encourage me to buy a few!
