**It’s time to write out some Christmas cards. My pen scratches across the parchment, the ink bleeding through slightly, as I write in a swooping cursive. I write a holiday note to each person and seal it, writing their name on the front and postmarking with a stamp. I take a walk into towne and post them, hoping they make it in time.**
I was trying to think of some Christmas themed posts I could do, and thought about discussing some book characters I would send Christmas cards to. A lot of these are my favorite characters from my favorite books, the ones that would really stand out to me. So without further ado, here are all the characters on my list to send Christmas cards to.
π First up, we have Liz Buxbaum from Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter. When I read Nothing Like the Movies, I saw some people say they didn’t like Liz, but I actually love Liz as a character, especially in the first book. Even in the second book, while I don’t love the personality change, we also have to understand her situation, and I do think in some ways it was a natural change from getting older and I enjoyed watching her discover new interests. I can honestly see myself in her in some aspects and think we would get along pretty well, so she would definitely get a Christmas card from me and an invite to the Christmas party.
π The next people on my Christmas card list are Harper and Rhen from A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. These two are some of my all time favorites so they could definitely expect a card from me. Harper was such a great main character. She was thrown in a crazy situation and made the best of it and she didn’t let anything stop her. She also just feels like a normal character. She wasn’t given any crazy characteristics to make her stand out so much that felt unnatural. And Rhen was such a great co-main character. He was going through a lot and didn’t always make the best decisions, but learns a lot and really grows. Also, I put these two together because I’m assuming they always lived together since Harper was transported to Emberfall with nowhere else to go.
π My next recipient is Tessa from Defy the Night, also by Brigid Kemmerer. Another of my favorite series with my favorite characters, I would have to send a Christmas card to Tessa. What I like about Tessa is that we can see her fear. So many characters are in terrifying situations but act like it’s nothing, but with Tessa, she’s trying to help people even though she’s scared and we can actually see that. It makes her more human. Anyway, I really liked Tessa and would send her a Christmas card.
π On the same note, Corrick is also receiving a card. Corrick is another character that is in a hard position as the king’s justice. However, we can see that he hates his role and I love the moments between him and Tessa. We can see how much they care for each other through small things. I think Corrick would appreciate the small gesture, as well as Rhen who’s mentioned above. Brigid Kemmerer’s characters are my favorites and she writes them all so well.
π Backtracking to Better Than the Movies, I would probably send one to Wes Bennett as well. I think he was a great character in Better Than the Movies. He was always there for Liz and seems like a great character.
π Avery Grambs from The Inheritance Games is next. I think Avery was a unique character. She was intelligent, and we can actually see that through the story and her actions. I like that she is also just a normal girl that came into everything by chance. She was such a great lead for the series.
π Not going to lie, I’d send one to each of the Hawthorne brothers as well. I think Grayson and Nash are my favorites, but I do love Jameson and Xander as well. Some of my favorite scenes in the series are when we can see these four just being brothers. The bonus scene in The Final Gambit B&N edition was so fun because it was outside the story and just the brothers goofing off. It was so fun and those moments make me love these characters, so all four would receive a card.
π I’m going to put these two together, but Audrey-Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell from Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. This is a top series for me, and I liked both of these characters and watching them solve each mystery that comes their way. I think they would also make great guests at a Christmas party.
I think I’m going to leave it there. There’s some other characters that I do like, but some of the others included Alex Stern from Ninth House, who would probably crumble up the card immediately, and Xaden and Violet from Fourth Wing, who may either read it or just let their dragons scorch it. While I love the characters, I don’t think we would get along, so they probably wouldn’t get a Christmas card from me (sorry!). If you were able to, what characters would you send Christmas cards to?
