**A cat stalks into the night, then scurries away at the first strike of lighting. The light flashes across the sky in the horizon and I count to see how long until the next crack of thunder shakes the earth. The seconds creep closer together as I watch through my window anticipating the storm. The flame of my candle dances, as if the wind howling outside will snuff it out, even though the windows are locked up tight to keep the draft out. I snuggle farther under my blankets, ready for the storm with my eerie novel and steaming cup of tea. The lightning cracks and the thunder rolls, bringing the storm closer to my little cottage.**
Okay, so we’re going to do this one a bit early. I have had a plan for a post for a while now, but haven’t been able to do it yet, so I’m hoping for next week. So we get to do the March TBR today! I am currently in the middle of a book, so I am really hoping to finish it and start (and hopefully finish) one more before February ends. Not sure if that’s possible since we are VERY close to the end of the month already somehow. So even though I may not be able to get to that other book, I’m going to leave it off the TBR on the chance I can read it this month. So now, we get to get into the 5 books I hope to read in March.
- Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross
We start with Ruthless Vows. Spoiler alert – I did read Divine Rivals in February. I will give my full thoughts in my wrap-up, but I did decide to pick up book 2. I wanted to know what would happen, so I got it from my library while I was there and hope to read it in March. For anyone who doesn’t know, Divine Rivals follows two characters names Iris and Roman who work as journalists at the same newspaper and don’t get along. Little do they know, they are corresponding through letters that get magically transported to each other. During this time, a war between the gods is going on and both characters are going through things they only share through letter. I’m kind of intrigued what will be happening in this second book. I’ve heard it’s more focused on the war and magic, so I’m intrigued to see.
- The Wish Switch by Lynn Painter
This is Lynn Painter’s first middle grade novel, and seeing as how she is one of my favorite authors, I knew I had to read it. This is about a girl who is trying to make a wish in a magic wishing well, but her wish gets knocked off course by a boy in her class, so everything she wished for is happening to the boy instead of her, so the two of them need to work together to fix it all. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Lynn Painter, so I am really excited to see how her middle grade debut is. I currently own four unread books by her, but I think I want this one to be my first of the year, so I’m excited to start.
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
Listen, I’m not a classics person. I usually can’t get into them and have no motivation to pick one up. So I decided to read Little Women. Obtaining the book clearly didn’t help since I’ve had it over a year now, but I think I want to read it in March. That’s also not intentional by the way, it just worked out like that. I have watched the 90s movie, so I already know the story, but I wanted to give it a read anyway since I thought it would help already knowing what happens and keep me engaged.
- Thicker Than Water by Brigid Kemmerer
I wanted to read this one this month but didn’t get around to it, so I’m hoping I will in March. I think this is a ya supernatural type story, so I’m intrigued to see how it is. I am a huge fan of Brigid Kemmerer, so I will read almost everything she writes, and I’m really trying to focus on getting through all of my favorite authors’ backlist titles, so this will bring me one step closer.
- The Reckoning of Roku by Randy Ribay
I’m actually a bit nervous to read this one. I feel like books based off of an already existing franchise or story are never as good and almost always feel weird. But I did want to try this one anyway. This is part of the series based on Avatar: the Last Airbender and follows Roku. Roku is my favorite of the old Avatars so I was really interested to see what the author would do with his story.
I am horrendous at sticking to a TBR for some reason. I usually end up reading maybe two books from it, then end up straying for everything else I read in the month. But I still find it enjoyable to put these together, so we will see in my March TBR how many of these I have read. I think it would be fun to challenge myself one month to read only from my TBR. I’d have to put together a really good one to stick to it. So until then, I will try my best to stick with this one.
xoxo,
