**The crisp weather is making me wish I was somewhere warm. A nice beach maybe, where the sun is shining and the air is sticky. Where I won’t have to bundle up in blankets and set the fire. A breeze comes through the window and breaks my daydream, sending a chill down my spine. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon.**
I just realized that I forgot to do my February wrap-up, so now is a perfect time to review all the books I read in the month of February. I read three books last month and have some thoughts, so let’s get into them.
- Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
This book is a pretty popular one, but it follows two characters, Iris and Roman, who compete at the newspaper they work at. However, the magic typewriters they each have connects them and they unknowingly are writing to each other. There is also a war between the gods happening and we get to see some of that as well. I thought this one was okay. The concept was different and had unique elements to it and the story was interesting, but it wasn’t one I felt myself getting invested in. There was nothing that really stood out to me or made me feel overly invested. I also felt like the romance was a bit fast and I think it needed to be either drug out a bit more or slower moving once it starts. I do plan to read the sequel still.
- The Off Limits Rule by Sarah Adams
This is my third book by Sarah Adams. It follows a woman who moves herself and her son in with her brother after losing her job and moving back to her hometown. Then she meets Cooper, her brother’s best friend, and starts to fall for him, which is definitely against her brother’s wishes. We get both characters’ perspectives in this book and see each end of the interactions. I liked this one! I would say it’s my least favorite by her so far, but I still enjoyed it. I think it was a solid romance with cute and funny moments. I do think there were a few times where the main character was written as too quirky, but I could mostly look past it.
- The Lost LIbrary by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass
I read a few books by both of these authors years ago and really enjoyed them. This one however was not my favorite. It follows three characters: a boy named Evan, a ghost named Al, and a cat named Mortimer. We follow each of these characters as a mystery is unraveled that is connected to a mysterious new little free library. I just couldn’t get into this. The writing felt off to me and the characters didn’t feel any different from each other. The plot felt slow in the first half like nothing was really happening. I thought it got a bit better the farther I got, but I still didn’t love it.
I am ALMOST done my current read, and I have my next few books already planned out, so I hope I can get to them this month, so we will see in my March wrap-up. I think I also want to do my April TBR a bit different, so I’m excited for that as well. But until then, I just need to finish my book.
