**Trumpets blare and the strumming of a guitar gets louder as I crest the hill on my way to work. People dance in the street and a small band plays on the sidewalk. I watch the people play and dance and watch as children run through the streets, their hands sticky with popsicle running down their arms. I lift my face to the sun to feel the warmth before heading into the shoppes and starting the day.**

It has been getting SO much warmer and it has been making me want to read so many different books, which is very dangerous because I’ll start wanting to read everything at once or to start a new book every two days. So because of the warmer weather, I decided to look at my physical TBR and my bookish wishlist and make a list of ten books I would want to read this summer. I’m really bad at sticking to a TBR, but considering this list would be from about May through August, I think I have a good shot at reading them. I would really like to get to a lot of these, so we’ll have to see when summer ends. But here are ten books I would want to read this summer.

  • Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

Confession: I have never read an Abby Jimenez book before. That sounds crazy since I feel like her and Emily Henry are two that seem very popular and similar in a way, but I never had the urge to pick up one of her books. But I ended up looking into Part of Your World and I really liked the first two pages and wanted to try it. I started writing this post up yesterday but am finishing today and actually just bought this book while I was out. I figured it is finally time and I’m very excited! I just bought the next book on this list today as well.

  • Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

This is the only one of Emily Henry’s adult novels that I have yet to read. If I remember correctly, I think this book is about two novelist who are optioned to write a biography about an elusive older lady and it’s them learning about her story as she chooses who will write it. I always try out every one of Emily Henry’s latest releases and would love to read this one for the summer. Along with this one, I also plan to reread all of her other adult novels. I have recently finished my reread of Book Lovers so I want to go back into her other books to see what I think now that it has been a few years and I don’t remember much. I’m hoping to do one per month, but don’t plan to read People We Meet On Vacation since that one was my least favorite.

  • Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The only TJR book I have read in the past is Forever, Interrupted. I never had interest in her other books, but the cover for Atmosphere draws me in every time I see it so I want to give it a try. This one is about a female astronaut in the ’80s. I’ve never read a book like this, so I am interested to see what it’s about. Something about it reminds me of summer so I would love to get to it before the end of August.

  • The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager

I have wanted to read this book for years now. I read Lock Every Door and wasn’t a big fan, but wanted to read this one since it takes place at a summer camp. I did read Sager’s book The House Across the Lake, which I enjoyed much more, but I love a good summer camp setting for a thriller, so I’m excited to give this a try. And what better time than summer?

  • The Edge of Forever by Meghan P. Browne

This is actually a middle grade book I found pretty recently. It comes out in May and is about a girl who lost her dad. Her and her mom go to stay with family in a small town and our main character Maisie doesn’t want to be there. Fortunately for her she finds solace in a library and meets a boy there who helps her uncover family secrets. This book seems so good and I can’t wait for it to come out so I can read it.

  • How to Write a Rom-Com by Cristina Wolf

This is one I randomly found a year ago I think. This is a bookish romance where the main character has to go to a small town to find inspiration for a popular romance author at the publishing company she works for even though she has sworn off love. Of course she meets a small town guy and probably lives out a real life romcom. It just seems like a cute story and something I would enjoy.

  • When In Rome by Sarah Adams

I got really interested in Sarah Adams’ books last year after I read The Match, so my next step is to read the When In Rome series, which is definitely her most popular books. I think this will be a pretty summery book so I hope to get to it sometime in the next few months.

  • Maid For Each Other by Lynn Painter

I LOVE Lynn Painter. The last book I read by her wasn’t my favorite, but I think this one will be really good. I have been making my way through her backlist and this one seems like a great choice for summer. I have no clue if it takes place in summer, but the blue-green cover is bright enough to make me think it is. Our main character is a maid and ends up fake dating the rich guy of the apartment she’s cleaning. I have a feeling I’ll really like this one.

  • Drawn Together by Juliana Smith

This is actually an indie book I found and wanted to read. It’s a romance between a children’s book writer and a children’s book illustrator and it seems so cute! Now that I really look at the cover, this actually may be more of a fall book, but I don’t care. A romance between two bookish people seems like it would be great for summer (maybe because I just finished Book Lovers). I actually can’t wait to get to this one and thought the warm months would be a great time to try it.

  • Secrets So Deep by Ginny Myers Sain

Is it just me, or can certain thrillers just be perfect for summer? This is one of those ones that remind me of the summer months for some reason. I read this author’s debut novel Dark and Shallow Lies a few years ago and loved it! This was around the time I realized that I really like the sub-genre of fantasy thrillers. I really hope that this one is amazing as well.

I am very excited to get to all of these and think I’ll really enjoy them. Does anyone else theme their reading based on the seasons?

xoxo,
