**The daylight leaves earlier every day, leaving us in darkness for even longer as the weather gets cooler. The changing of seasons is evident in this, and I take the opportunity to read more autumnal stories. The rain patters on my window as I flip through page after page of a ghost story by candlelight. The flame flickers and, once I turn the last page, I blow it out, plunging the room into darkness.**

Here we are, back with another TBR! I had a horrendous headache over the weekend and really didn’t want to work on this post so we’re getting to it a bit later, though I am so determined to come up with some good ideas to bring to this blog (and to post more consistently again). Anyway, I have way too many books I want to read in October. I was originally going to cut this down to about seven, but honestly why not just throw all nine on here? I know I won’t get to all of them, but this way I have plenty of options and all of you can take a look at some of the books I’m thinking about reading.

  • Drawn Together by Juliana Smith

Yeah, so I remember saying that if I had to get to one book in September, it would be this one. You know what I didn’t do? I read some other books instead, so October will be the month for this. Anyway, this is a self-published romance following a picture book writer and an illustrator and I have never seen this before, so I am so excited to finally sit down and read it. It looks like the perfect fall read so I will be soaking in every second of this one.

  • The Big Bad Wolf Murder by P.G. Bell

Getting into my more mystery/thriller books, we have this middle grade book I got a few months ago. It was pitched for fans of Zootopia, so of course I had to check this out. It’s about a girl who is competing in this competition and is the youngest human to do so, but when the undefeated wolf suddenly dies and poison is found in our main character’s bag, everyone is accusing her. So with the help of the wolf who everyone thinks is her accomplice, the two work together to prove their innocence. It’s a short book and seems like it could be really good, so I am very excited to give this a read. I have been saving it for October and can’t wait to finally get to it.

  • The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane by Julia Nobel

This is one I randomly picked up at a used bookstore, but it seems like it’s about a girl shipped off to a boarding school and the secret societies she encounters while there. Kind of reminds me of the middle grade version of Truly Devious and Ninth House, two series I really enjoyed. I’m interested to see how this book will be since I haven’t really seen it anywhere.

  • The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

I know full well I should be focusing my attention on another Leigh Bardugo book (cough cough, Rule of Wolves) but I can’t get invested enough yet to sit with it and read five hundred pages or however long it is. So now I’m thinking I’ll start this one instead. All I know about this one is that it takes place in Spain and has something to do with magic. I’m not sure how I’ll feel about this one honestly, but it could be one that takes me by surprise, so I’m willing to give it a try.

  • Dead Flip by Sara Farizan

This is another book I randomly found at a used bookstore and had literally never seen anywhere before. It’s set during the 90s and follows a group of friends whose one friend disappeared several years prior, and his disappearance is linked to something supernatural. It caught my eye while I was browsing and I feel like October will be a good month to read it. It’s another short book so I can hopefully get through it pretty quickly and squeeze in as many of these books as I can.

  • Furyborn by Claire Legrand

This is the book I just got with my blind date with a book that I bought, and I know practically nothing about this, and I think I want to keep it that way. I have a ton of mystery-type books for my TBR, but for some reason there are a lot of fantasy ones catching my eye as well and this is one of them. I would love to get to this soon, so if not October, then by the end of the year.

  • Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I spent a lot of time at my local used bookstore this year, so this is another one that I picked up on one of my many trips. I had heard incredible things about this and decided to get it. I have actually really been wanting to read this since I got it now so I kind of want to read it ASAP. I just know I’ve heard this pitched for fans of Avatar: the Last Airbender, so that’s a good enough comp for me.

  • Smoke and Scar by Gretchen Powell Fox

Almost done, but this is another fantasy I would love to get to sometime in the fall/winter months. It’s a fantasy where our fmc is an immortal fae warrior and I think competes in some type of trial if I can remember correctly. This was originally self-published then actually just got picked up recently but I found it on one of my many searches for self-published books and I am sooo excited to read this one.

  • The City of Veils by S. Usher Evans

Last book! This is actually another self-published fantasy I found and it follows a vigilante who needs to become queen after her father and brother are found dead. This is another fantasy I am so excited to read and I really hope I like it.

Okay, so there are probably 8 million other books I could add to this TBR but this is already unrealistic so we’ll leave it here. I’m excited to see what I can get to this month and I will be sharing all my September reads on Monday, so stay tuned for that as well.

xoxo,
